Cruise operator Royal Caribbean said Thursday that two guests aboard his Celebrity Millennium ship have tested positive for Covid-19, but are asymptomatic and currently in isolation.
The guests, who shared a room, are being monitored by the company’s medical team, the cruise line said, adding that it is conducting contact tracing and speeding up testing for all close contacts of individuals.
Celebrity Millennium was one of the first North American cruises to resume navigation last week, after more than a year.
Royal Caribbean began sailing in June after following comprehensive guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) which included a fully vaccinated crew and anyone over 16 with proof of Covid-19 vaccination.
Cruise lines are among the latest to resume pre-pandemic operations, as the CDC set strict guidelines earlier this year for the cruise industry for resuming travel, after some ships became hotbeds for the virus last year.
