Ed boon is known for his smart tweets, but sometimes the gaming community does a lot of work on harmless posts. Is his latest post just another theory gone mad, or is Mortal Kombat co-creator really teasing a new Marvel game? You decide.

Boon and his Twitter account are still in the conversation. Sometimes he posts things that are wildly taken out of context; other times, he cleverly hides the secrets of the game in plain sight. Because of this, it’s hard not to view her latest post as anything other than a potential tease, especially with a new Marvel gaming rumor being such a hot topic.

Mortal Kombat co-creator retweeted a post from director James Gunn, an article about his latest film, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Boon shared the initial post saying, “Wow, [James Gunn] managed to work on DC and Marvel films. It’s impressive. He added a thoughtful emoji for the effect and apparently that effect worked because players everywhere immediately clamored to see if that was a clue. Even Geoff Keighley joined in the speculation:

Rumors revived once more about a new Marvel game recently, claiming that NetherRealm is working hard on a Marvel fighting game for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Obviously, Mortal Kombat has tried the DC worm in the past, which fans are doing. ‘hang the specific wording of Boon’s tweet.

Other than cryptic tweaks and leaks sharing knowledge about what lies ahead, neither NetherRealm nor Marvel have confirmed any rumors yet.
