It seems there has been a lot more behind the scenes in the development of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 because Paradox Interactive has decided to separate from Hardsuit Labs, the studio that is developing the next title. The change of hands so late in development naturally caused a delay for the game itself and existing pre-orders were canceled.
The news was confirmed on the official Bloodlines 2 website after an extended period of news stalling. Now the silence makes sense, even though publisher Paradox confirms the game is “still in development.”
The post goes on to say that the publishing studio has made the “tough decision that Hardsuit Labs will no longer lead the development of Bloodlines 2 – which also means we won’t be releasing in 2021 as previously planned.” With no new release window at this time due to the change of hands, the team also confirms that new pre-orders will not be accepted until a firmer update is confirmed.
“This game is very important to us and it’s been an ambitious project from the very beginning,” continues the developer’s update. “In order to achieve our goals, we have come to the conclusion that change is needed and therefore more development time is needed.
While it appears that Hardsuit Labs is no longer the best fit for the game, according to the publisher, Paradox has “honored” the studio for all the work done on the game so far, claiming that Hardsuit “has made a tremendous work in laying the groundwork for the game and we hope you, the community, will also enjoy their contribution to Bloodlines 2. ”
No new release date is available at this time and no news as to who the new development team is, but it’s a relief to hear that Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, to say the least. is not canceled for now. This is not the first setback this game has seen; the creative director left the project earlier last year, for example. Hopefully Paradox can find its rhythm with the new team collecting the coins before Bloodlines 2 suffers the same fate as the other games that remain in development limbo to this day.
